Majority of Americans plan to do last-minute Christmas shopping

Over 40,000 US consumers would buy gifts online, even if they weren’t delivered by Christmas

According to Klarna, 79% of US shoppers left their holiday shopping at the last minute and plan to finish shopping for relatives within 2 weeks of Christmas.

Of these eleventh-hour shoppers, 35% postpone their last holiday shopping for Christmas week. Women (80%) and men (78%) are almost equally likely to shop at the last minute of this holiday season.

Also,64% of men and 53% of women will buy gifts online at the last minute, even if they are not delivered by Christmas. Likewise, apparel and accessories (78%) are the most popular last-minute shopping gifts, followed by electronics (45%), gift cards (44%), and household goods (33%).

Compared with 45% of Gen Z and 43% of Millennials, only 26% of Silent Gen shoppers and 34% of Baby Boomers said they are buying small and independent brands.

Meanwhile, 3,000 respondents answered about the strangest gift they have ever got. The most frequent response was socks.
