Sainsbury’s has announced the opening of the ‘Giving Store’ so that customers could donate to people in need. It means they can just browse the store, using prepaid tokens, take goods from the shelves, and after that, the items will be donated to charity.

10 million adults revealed they forget to donate to charity, whereas 40% of people tell others to do so. As to the main reasons, they say they don’t have money (27%) and prioritize other things (29%).

If every person doing their Christmas shopping this December donated one extra item – be that a can of soup or a roll-on deodorant – over 50 million products could be donated to those in need this festive season. We want to do what we can to encourage shoppers to donate food and toys and do so in a way that teaches children the importance of helping others, particularly around the festive season
Judith Batchelar, Director of Sainsbury’s Brand

The ‘Giving Store’ will house priority items as advised by local food bank partners – from non-perishable food and toiletries to toys. At the end of the shopping, customers will reach a traditional checkout, where the items will be placed in interactive donation containers.
