Google has announced they will be charging the users once they reach 15 GB of storage on their account. This change will start to apply on 1st June 2021.

It also comes with a policy change for other Google Drive policies like counting of Google Workspace documents and spreadsheets against the same cap. Recently Google also announced a new policy relating to the deletion of data from inactive accounts that haven’t been logged in for the past two years.

Google explained in the announcement that this 15 GB cap will not apply to all the photos and documents uploaded before the 1st of June, so there is plenty of time to make a decision whether to continue the usage of Google Photos or you want to switch to another cloud storage for storing your photos.

Free unlimited cloud storage data was one of the biggest selling points for Google Photos cloud service by Google.

The original quality photo was already counted by Google in uploads against the storage cap in Google Photos. With the announcement of limited storage for uploading Photos, Google is now taking away its biggest selling point.

However, Google Pixel users will still be able to upload high-quality photos for free even after the deadline and those images will not be counted against their storage cap.

We’ve reported that Google will launch app comparison tool.
