Brooklyn woman pleads guilty to unauthorized intrusion into Credit Union’s computer system

Juliana Barile, Credit Union’s former employee pleaded guilty to the offence of computer intrusion. Juliana committed the misdeed in retaliation for being fired from the Union. When sentenced, Barile faces up to 10 years’ imprisonment and a fine.

Upon her termination on May 19, 2021 from her part-time position at the company, the employee remotely accessed the Credit Union’s server. After gaining access to the server on May 21, 2021, Barile deleted approximately 21.3 gigabytes of data including almost 3,500 directories and over 20,000 files. Among the deleted data includes the company’s anti-ransomware protection software and mortgage loan application-related files. Juliana also accessed confidential files.

After destroying the data, Barile sent a text message to a friend and explained that she had deleted the shared network documents. The unauthorized intrusion and destruction of data have taken back the Credit Union over $10,000 in efforts to remedy the data.
